A Federal High Court in Abuja has on Monday declined a bail request by Abba Kyari, Deputy Commissioner of Police and former head of the IGP Intelligence Response Team (IRT), who is in the custody of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) over alleged involvement in the 25kg cocaine deal. Kyari's lawyer, Cynthia Obianuju Ikena argued the ex-parte application was on health grounds. The presiding judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo ordered Kyari to notify the NDLEA and adjourned the suit until February 24 for a hearing.

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in a joint operation has secured the release of 15 Nigerian girls trafficked to Mali. The release was in collaboration with the Network Against Child Trafficking, Abuse and Labour (NACTAL) and the Action Against Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants in Nigeria (A-TIPSOM). A-TIPSOM is a project being implemented in Nigeria by the International and Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policy and is being sponsored by the European Union.

The Police Service Commission has suspended Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Sunday Ubua, and Assistance Superintendent of Police, ASP James Bawa from the exercise of the powers and functions of their respective offices with effect from 14th February 2022.

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has directed that the investigation into the case involving the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Abba Kyari should be carried out by a different panel. The commission has also issued a two weeks ultimatum to the police to conclude their investigation. This was disclosed on Friday in a statement signed by PSC, Head, Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani.

Armed robbers have attacked a bullion van transporting money to a bank at Idi-Ape in Ibadan North East Local Government area of Oyo state. The robbers allegedly hijacked the van shortly after it left one of the banks in Ibadan, capital city of Oyo. The gunmen reportedly shot sporadically, scaring passers-by while the operation lasted. Soldiers have been drafted to the scene to restore order.
