Shocked by the rising cases of insecurity in the country, the Coalition of Nigerian Elders for Peace and Good Governance (CONEPAGG) have urged President Buhari to seek foreign intervention to bring the carnage to a halt.
A survivor amongst the victims of the recent attack which cost about 43 rice farmers lives in Zabarmari village in Borno, claimed they gave information to the Military on the impending attack but no action was taken. About 43 confirmed rice farmers were slaughtered on Saturday while harvesting their crop in Zabarmari, a suburb at the outskirt of Maiduguri town, Borno state, though the numbers of victims were under contention as the United Nation claimed it was 110 persons.
The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Lai Mohammed on Monday gave reason why Boko Haram activities may continue, as Nigeria’s inability to gain access to acquisition of adequate weapons to fight the terrorists. Mr Mohammed, made the statement in Benue state during a courtesy visit to the state governor, Samuel Ortom, at the government house. While reacting to issues bordering on insecurity and the latest killing of farmers in Borno State he called for more global support and adequate weapons. The minister said, terrorism is a global issue and the Federal Government needs global support to combat it, adding that added that the nation has been denied this support and without adequate weapons, the nation will remain at the mercy of terrorist.
Dr Boboye Oyeyemi, Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said President Muhammadu Buhari has to approve before the corps can bear arms. He said this was necessary as a result of the current trend of attacks, killing and kidnapping of the corps personnel across the country.
Just as we think is over with the pogrom of the insurgents, 43 rice farmers were butchered by the dreaded Boko Haram element yesterday while working on their local rice farm at Zabarmari village in Jere Local Government Area of Borno state.
