The United Nations General Assembly declared May 3 to be World Press Freedom Day (World Press Day) in order to raise awareness of the importance of freedom of expression for the press. While joining the world to commensurate the World press day, the Bayelsa chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Friday 3rd of May 2018 called on the Federal Governments to provide adequate security for journalists especially those deployed for elections.

The Acting Chairman of Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu has alleged that some governors are responsible for promoting insecurities in their states to justify the collection of more security vote’s allocation from the federal government.
