Former President Goodluck Jonathan and Vice President AtikuAbubakar sent early messages to sympathise with President Muhammadu Buhari over the motorcycle accident of his son. Yusuf.

Yusuf, first son of President Buhair, was involved in a bike accident on Wednesday night but he is in stable condition and the family is receiving goodwill messages from political friends and foes.

Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, sent a sympathy message to President Buhari’s family over the accident.

Abubakar, who dumped Buhari’s All Progressives Congress (APC) early in the month said in a tweet, “commiserated with the first family through his twitter handle @atiku. He said “Our thoughts are with the first family – our family will be praying for you. We wish Yusuf a speedy recovery.”

It was thrills and frills as the Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade, led 250 power bikers, including former governor Donald Duke in an acrobatic display of state of the art exotic power bikes.

The bikers’ segment of the Calabar Carnival, which took place on Wednesday afternoon, witnessed throngs of spectators who laid siege on the 12-kilometre carnival route to watch acrobatic displays.

Leading the charge which took off to an ecstatic start, the revellers screamed and cheered as Governor Ayade, who was carrying his wife, Mrs Linda Ben-Ayade, and his band of riders took to the road from the Millennium Park.

“The bikers’ parade intention is to connect with young people,” the governor said. “If you look at the audience in the carnival, it has undergone dramatic change in the last 10 years – from the elderly to the middle age, now to the young people and if you don’t change the content of the carnival to reflect the enthusiasm and the adrenaline pumping nature of the young people, you will be boring to them.

To reinforce earlier announcement of the reorganisation of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), the Nigeria Police Force has announced new measures to reform the squad.

This was after a meeting by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris and commanders of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) on Friday, December 22.

Part of the new measure is that SARS operatives should not serve as bodyguards or delve into civil matters and must wear their uniforms during operation.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Rivers State, Nnamdi Omoni in a statement said the Nigeria Police Force after the IGP lecture, decided to implement new measures to reform the squad.

As workers across the country resumed work today, December 27, after three days public holiday to mark the Christmas celebration, their counterparts in Imo state are still enjoying the holiday.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has urged Nigerians to stop panic buying of Petroleum products as it had 21 days sufficiency of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) otherwise called petrol.

A statement signed by its Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Mr Ndu Ughamadu, on Tuesday in Abuja, it said the 21 day sufficiency of petrol translated into 750million litres of the white product.
