An Irate mob in Sokoto on Sunday murdered a butcher, Usman Buda, after he was accused of making blasphemous comments against Prophet Muhammad. Sokoto Police spokesperson Ahmad Rufai, who confirmed the incident to journalists said “On 25th June, 2023, about 0955hrs, we got a distress call in the morning around 9:20 a.m. that one Usman Buda ‘M’ of Gwandu LGA, a butcher at Sokoto Abattoir allegedly blasphemed the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW); as a result, he was mobbed and attacked by some Muslim faithful and inflicted serious injuries on him.

 

Two Qatar-based drug kingpins, Eyah Celestine Nnamdi, alias Murphy, and Ugwuoke Peter Oluchukwu have been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) following interception of their methamphetamine consignment at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja Lagos. Femi Babafemi, the spokesman of the anti-narcotics agency in a statement disclosed that Ugwuoke was the first to be apprehended on June 9, during the outward clearance of Qatar Airways passengers at the departure point, Terminal 2 of the Lagos airport.

The former Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Lawrence Ojerinde, his three sons and daughter-in-law, have been re-arraigned by the Federal Government for allegedly selling off its property in Ghana. Mr. Ojerinde, alongside four of his children, Mary Ojerinde, Olumide Ojerinde, Adebayo Ojerinde and Oluwaseun Ojerinde, among other defendants. The accused persons who were all present in court were docked on 17-count criminal charges by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC). The rest of the defendants are six companies linked to him, namely: Doyin Ogbohi Petroleum Limited, Cheng Marbles Limited, Sapati International Schools Limited, Trillium Learning Centre Limited, Standout Institutes Limited and Esli Perfect Security Printers Limited.

The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, for the 2023 general election, Dumebi kachikwu, has called on President Tinubu to beam his searchlight and order for a comprehensive forensic audit into the activities of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, and the Central Bank of Nigeria. The former presidential candidate made this call during a democracy day broadcast yesterday, Monday, saying such a probe will not only uncover rot in these three critical sectors of the nation's economy but also will give headway to the president to reposition the nation’s economy for the betterment of the nation ahead of the challenge that has left the country in bad shape.

The nation's secret Police, the Department of State Services (DSS) has confirmed the arrest of the suspended Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele. This is contained in a statement issued on Saturday by Peter Afunanya, the Service’s Public Relations Officer.

Armed security personnel raided two (2) houses belonging to the immediate former Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle on Friday where over 40 government vehicles were allegedly recovered. This was made known in a statement issued on Friday by Suleiman Idris, the spokesperson of the current Governor, Dauda Lawal which stated that the raid was backed by a court order and search warrant.
