The Nigerian in Diaspora Commission, NiDCOM, has warn all Government Ministries, Department and Agencies, MDAs, to stay clear in dealing with fake Diaspora Groups. This was made known by NiDCOM Director of Media, Public relations and protocols, Abdul-Rahman Balogun cautioning both Embassies and high commission to be aware of such phony group. Today, the Nigerian Diaspora Forum, NDF, a Non-governmental organisation announced that it has opened its office in Abuja to establish a support network across the world.

The group premised their decision to site an Abuja office was necessitated by the need to “better advocate for the rights of Nigerians living in the Diaspora”.

It disclosed that it will liaise with the “different Foreign Embassies, High Commissions, and Ambassadors to better the welfare and well-being of Nigerians living in their respective countries of residence outside the country”.

However, Balogun said NiDCOM frown at the development, describing the move as sinister motive to swindle unsuspecting public officials and citizens.

The statement revealed, “The so called forum, an arm of Labour party masquerading as Diaspora group which is not even registered with the corporate Affairs Commission“.

“We are aware that all political parties, including the ruling party, APC, PDP, SDP, NNPP including LP have Diaspora chapters and support groups outside the country and do work to promote and champion their parties ideals”.

It explained that “it is equally sinister that an unregistered body with CAC will fraudulently and boldly announce the setting up of an office to oversee the welfare of Nigerians in Diaspora while in Abuja.

it explained that” This is no doubt an attempt to fraudulently hoodwink unsuspecting members of the public, Ministries, departments and agencies, embassies, high commission as well as states and Local government to be aware”.

The NiDCOM spokesperson call the attention of MDAs, diplomatic communities to always check the status of Diaspora group with it, as the office has the current database of all registered members before according them any audience.

Balogun assured citizens that the office is committed to fulfilling its obligation through working with genuine Nigerians in Diaspora group and individual for the advancement of the country.
