The Ondo State Police Command has described as untrue the report trending on the social media that some Fulani herdsmen attacked and killed some passengers travelling along Lagos/Ore road.

The social media was flooded with the report on Wednesday, causing unnecessary panic in the state.

Spokesman of the command, Femi Joseph, urged members of the public to disregard the story.

The Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo has called for the creation of state police amid increasing security challenges in the country. He made the call on Thursday at a National Assembly security summit, as he believes this would help tighten security across the nation.

The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday passed a resolution inviting the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris to appear in person to make input to ongoing efforts by the National Assembly to introduce Community Policing in Nigeria. The Senate made the resolution following a motion moved by Senator representing Osun West, Ademola Adeleke titled 'The Need to Post Junior Cadre of the Nigeria Police Force to Their States and Local Government Area to Enhance Community Policing in Nigeria.’

Rogers Nicholas, theatre commander, operation Lafiya Dole, says the Nigerian Army has completely defeated the Boko Haram insurgents.

Nicholas said this during the inauguration of the Nigeria-Cameroun Military joint mission on Saturday in Maiduguri, Borno capital.

The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo is currently meeting behind closed doors with members of the National Economic Council Committee on Pastoralist/Farmers Clash, comprising some state governors. The meeting is aimed at fashioning out modalities to end the increasing cases of herdsmen attacks across parts of the country.
