President Muhammadu Buhari has named Usman Alkali Baba as the new replacement for Mr. Mohammed Adamu as Inspector-General of Police. Alkali an acting DIG, Finance and Administration, hails from Yobe State. Born in 1963, Baba before his appointment as acting IGP, was the DIG in charge of Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (FCIID). He is an alumnus of Bayero University, Kano, and the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID). He holds a teacher’s grade II certificate (TC II) from Teachers College, Potiskum Yobe.

The Minister of Interior, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola disclosed that passports would be issued in each of the 774 Local Government Areas (LGAs) nationwide to improve the process of passport collection. Mr. Aregbesola disclosed this at the newly inaugurated Maitama Passport Express Centre (MPEC).

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has slammed the doctored video being circulated by Boko Haram claiming responsibility for shooting down the NAF jet fighter. The NAF 475 jet was deployed on a mission to bombard Boko Haram terrorists during an operation at the Sambisa forest when it went off the radar on Wednesday 31st March 2021, with two pilots on board, Flight Lieutenant John Abolarinwa, and Flight Lieutenant Ebiakpo Chapele. Subsequently, Boko Haram released a video claiming it was behind the downing of the said fighter jet.

The Federal Government has extended the National Identity Number (NIN), linkage to SIM cards by one month to capture more Nigerians. Although, the authorities disclosed that the NIN database has now hit 51 million subscribers on its record, however, millions of Nigerians are also yet to be captured. Dr Ikechukwu Adinde and Mr KAyode Adegoke, the Director of Public Affairs, Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC), and Head Corporate Communication of the Agency respectively revealed this in a statement yesterday Thursday.

BRITISH High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing, has expressed concern over the worsening security situation in the country, pledging that, her country, the United Kingdom (UK) government was eager to help the Nigerian government wins its fight against insecurity.
