The military authority has debunked the alleged attack on Kaduna International Airport, saying, the attack happened at a village six kilometres from the perimeter fencing of the airport. The military revealed after they received a distressed call, they pursued the criminals through airstrike and got 12 of them dead on the spot. Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, Garrison Commander 1 Div, Nigerian Army Brig-General Uriah Opuene and Air Force Base Commander, Air commodore Ademuyiwa Adedoyin told Journalist this while taking them on-the-spot assessment yesterday.
Gen Opuene while briefing journalist said, the Kaduna Airport is one of the most secured Airports in the country as it has a series of security buffers that bandits cannot dares talk less of assessing the airport.
He explained to journalists the incident that the bandits were on their regular criminal outing behind the airport fence close to Riyawa village, when they sighted a security man engaged by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) to watch over their metrological equipment around the axis, they fired at the man to make a statement.
According to Opuene, “As you can see, this place is about six kilometres away from the Airport terminal. The bandits were only passing behind the airport perimeter fence when they saw the security man engaged by NAMA and they fired at him. They just took advantage of that to pass a message.”
He revealed that even the first layer of the buffer security zone was not breached.
He disclosed that they were present at the airport at the time of the incident and no bandit enters the airport premises.
In his remarks, the NAF Base Commander also explained that security around the Airport general area had been beefed up since the security of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) was breached last year, adding that bandits don’t have the audacity to attack the Kaduna Airport.
General Adedoyin assured that security around the Kaduna airport is very safe as there has been collaboration with locals to step up intelligence gathering around the airport for quick response.
He concluded that unlike the rumour being peddled by mischief makers, there was no threat of invasion into the Kaduna airport as the military are on top of the situation.
