There was pandemonium within the University of Maiduguri campus on Sunday night as soldiers battled to foil Boko haram attack targeted at the university.

 

The University, located along Maiduguri –Bama road, Premiumtimes reported that there was a sporadic gunshots heard echoing from the direction of female hostels.

The shooting that lasted for nearly two hours as soldiers remained resilient engaging the insurgents.

A top Army official who did not want his name to be mentioned told Premiumtimes that, “It was a Boko Haram attack which has been repelled effectively by our soldiers,”

The circumstances caused pandemonium among students who are currently writing their second-semester exams were seen helter skater running for their dear life for fear of unknown.

However, the collective security agencies who are guarding the higher institution direct the student to remain calm and be in their hostel as they were on top of the situation.

A female student who identified herself as Victoria said “the shooting was very close to our hostel (named B.O.T) and we were all scared.”

Ms Victoria said though the shooting has subsided, many of them were still very frightened.

Another student, Khadija Muhammed, said they also heard the shooting right behind their hostel, called Aisha Buhari Hostel.

“We have all been lying down on the floor since the shooting commenced; it lasted for about one an hour before it finally stopped some minutes to 11pm,” she said.
