The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has advised Nigerians on the dangers associated with irregular migration, adding that it would sensitize Nigerians about the risks. This was disclosed on behalf of the Comptroller General (CG) of NIS, Isah Jere by the NIS Public Relations Officer, Tony Akuneme who stated that Nigerians planning to migrate should do so properly, so as not to waste their time and resources.

He said, “A lot of people want to travel without knowing what they are going to do or where they are going to exactly. People are being brainwashed by agents of irregular migration and you think life is better on the other side.

“Who says there are no beggars in Canada, USA, or UK? There are beggars and homeless people in these countries you are rushing to”.

He advised Nigerians planning to migrate to secure a legal job, school admission, or any solid legal means of income, adding that the media should assist in enlightening the public about the dangers of illegal migration.
