The House of Representatives on Tuesday 29th June 2021 has confirmed the nomination of Major General Farouk Yahaya by President Mohammadu Buhari as Chief of Army Staff.

The committee had on the 15th June screened Yahaya for the position following his nomination by President Buhari on 27th May 2021 to replace the immediate past COAS, Lt. Gen Ibrahim Attahiru who lost his life alongside other Officers in a plane crash en route Kaduna.

The confirmation request has been sent by the president to the House in compliance with section 18(1) of the Armed Forces Act Cap A20 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

The Chairman of the committee, Babajimi Benson who presented the report revealed that all questions the Committee asked were answered by the nominee.

“Mr. Chairman, the COAS came to the committee, and he was grilled on local content in army’s procurement, funding of the military, the relationship with civil authorities, and the relationship with the parliament.

”The nominee gave apt answers to our questions, having been battle-tested hence, we recommend the nominee be confirmed.”
