US President, Donald Trump, has imposed an immigration visa ban on Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country and the continent’s largest economy and leading tech hub.
According to reports, Eritrea, Myanmar, Sudan Tanzania and Kyrgyzstan are also affected in the new ban. But it is not a total ban, unlike President Trump’s earlier effort that generated outrage around the world.
The primary reason for the new restrictions, according to DHS, was that the countries did not “meet the Department’s stronger security standards.”
Secretary Wolf noted, “the restrictions are not permanent if the country commits to change.”
Acting secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Chad Wolf, said the new immigration restrictions were designed to “address security concerns in the way the banned countries track their own citizens, share information with the U.S. and cooperate on immigration matters.
