COVID-19: FG To Roll Out Vaccines In FCT On Friday

Following the reception of the 3.9 million doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine on Tuesday as the first batch of the 16 million doses expected from the World Health Organization-led COVAX facility, the Federal Government is set to commence vaccination in Abuja on Friday. President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo are expected to receive the COVID-19 vaccine on Saturday.

A COVID-19 Isolation Centre was on Tuesday inaugurated at the State House Clinic, Abuja. The facility named the State House Clinic Special Care Centre was conceived and completed within 10 weeks. FG Bars Private Sector COVID-19 Vaccination

The Federal Government has barred the private sector from administering the COVID-19 vaccine, reserving the vaccination exclusively for the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA) for safety reasons. The Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire said this during the daily press briefing of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 in Abuja on Monday, saying the government is restricting the deployment and implementation of the vaccination exercise to the NPHCDA. Ehanire explained that the decision was to ensure safer and proper management of the COVID-19 vaccination programme, including dealing with any after-effects of the vaccine.

Team Begins Hunt For COVID-19 Origins In China After Quarantine – WHO

The World Health Organisation (WHO) researchers on Thursday, after the end of their quarantine in China, began investigations hoping to learn more about the origins of COVID-19. China had required that the team spend a 14-day quarantine period in a hotel before they could begin their investigations in the city of Wuhan, where the virus is believed to have crossed from animals to humans in 2019

The African Union (AU)has said it has secured nearly 300 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines for distribution to its member states. Dr Nicaise Ndembi, the Senior Science Adviser for the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed this on Wednesday, saying that the vaccines have been secured independently of the COVAX global effort to be distributed to low-income countries.
