Google Fires 28 Employees Over Protest

On Wednesday, Google terminated 28 employees who had participated in a protest against the contract with the Israeli government that Google shares with its rival, Amazon. The firings happened after nine employees were arrested on Tuesday during sit-in protests at Google offices in Sunnyvale, California, and New York City. The detained workers were released after a few hours, according to employees.

Binance to Halt Naira Services Amid Crypto Exchange Crackdown

Binance will halt all transactions and trading in Nigeria's local currency after March 8 amid a country-wide crackdown on crypto exchanges that have been blamed by authorities for feeding a black market for foreign exchange. It will stop supporting withdrawals after Friday and any remaining balances in Nigerian Naira will be automatically converted into Tether - a stablecoin whose value is pegged to the U.S. dollar. Binance a cryptocurrency exchange platform, was accused of exploiting the Naira which led to its crash. More so, the company is also accused of terrorism financing, money laundering, and tax evasion, among other things.

Days after being declared public interest in Portugal, the 2Africa submarine fibre optic cable, will links Europe, Asia, and Africa has landed in Qua Iboe, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. The cable, dubbed the largest cable project in the world is measured at 45,000-kilometre. According to Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, via his X handle wrote: “This is a significant milestone that has been delivered with the support of President Bola Tinubu, whose directive to all relevant agencies to support the ease of approvals was critical to the successful landing of this cable in Akwa Ibom, a first for the Niger Delta region,”
