The Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP) has yesterday called on President Muhammadu Buhari to reconsider his decision of easing up the partial lockdown which he announced to take effect on 4th May.

The NUAHP made the call through its National president Dr Obinna Ogbonna and its Secretary-General, Martin Egbanubi.

The group called on the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 to apply wisdom and reassess the Kano state problem saying is gradually drifting towards community transmission with 80% positive on every sample taken as revealed by the Presidential team send to Kano.

As at 5:51 on Sunday, there were 313 confirmed cases in Kano taking second after Lagos state with 1,084, the highest in the country.

President Buhari during his nationwide broadcast on 27th April said there would be a gradual easing of the lockdown in the FCT, Ogun and Lagos states which started as early as March 30th.

The President, however, imposed a dusk to dawn curfew in the FCT while still restrict inter-state travels.

According to the Dr Nasiru Gwarzo, the Head of the team sent to Kano by Mr President said there is high community transmission of the coronavirus in Kano.

Gwarzo stated this while granting interview to BBC Hausa service, saying there is a high rate of transmission as the testing capacity was increased.

According to him, the Kano people need to be extra careful with the deadly virus as in every 100 samples taken for testing, 80 per cent always come out positive.

In his statement, “This is a serious situation which needs a collective effort to address as the case of the pandemic has gone beyond people’s imagination as it has gone to community transmission.

“What we are afraid of in this pandemic is what is happening.

The pandemic has left the first stage of entering the country.

It has left the second stage and has entered the third stage of community spread.

This is not news that will be palatable to the public but like a Hausa, proverb says, ‘on the day you are to take a bath, you cannot hide your navel.’”
