Amidst calls to suspend all matches due to the surge of the Omicron Varian of the COVID-19, the Premier League has insisted that it want to continue where safety is possible. Because of the spike of the Omicron variant, England's top flights have had most of their games called off. It was revealed that the Manchester United game against Brighton scheduled to hold on Saturday at Old-Trafford has been suspended. The Red Devils have also suspended their trip to Brentford slated for Tuesday prior to the game.
It was also revealed that today’s match between Leicester City and Tottenham has also been called off, although Chelsea had reported a few cases today, their match against Everton tonight would still hold.
A statement released by the Premier League today partly reads, “While recognizing a number of clubs are experiencing COVID-19 outbreaks, it is the League’s intention to continue its current fixture schedule where safely possible. The health and wellbeing of all concerned remain our priority.”
