All four semi finalist of the 2017 US Open women’s singles semifinals is now occupied by American women. Venus Williams, Sloane Stephens, CoCo Vandeweghe and Madison Keys are all into the penultimate round after impressive runs beating all opponents to get to the semis. It’s the first time since 1981 that four American women have been in the semifinals at a Grand Slam.

Roger Federer overcomes big scare to edge out Frances Tiafoe in Round 1 to advance to the second round of the US Open. However, Federer was forced to work hard and dig deep before prevailing in five sets - 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, 1-6, 6-4. Worried about a recent back problem which kept him from participating in pre-slam competition as he would usually do, Federer overcame an early deficit to edge out the American teenager.

Maria Sharapova, former world number one, made a successful return to the grand slam arena, on Monday as she dumped second-ranked Simona Helep with a 6-4 4-6 6-3 victory over the Romanian. The 30-year-old Russian star, playing in her first grand slam since Australia open 2016, she delivered an absorbing contest, lasting almost three hours as she hit 60 winners and 54 unforced errors, compared to Halep's return of 15 and 14.

Andy Murray has pulled out of the United States (US) Open, citing hip injury. The British World Number two made the announcement on Saturday in an emotional news conference at Flushing Meadows. According to him, "I tried obviously resting, rehabbing to try and get myself ready here. I was actually practicing OK the last few days but it's too sore for me to win the tournament, and ultimately that's what I was here to try and do."

Grigor Dimitrov won his maiden Masters title with a 6-3, 7-5 win v Nick Kyrgios in the Cincinnati open on Sunday. The 26-year-old, who is the world No 11, claimed his third title of the season. Both men were in their first Masters final and they played some impressive tennis. Grigor Dimitrov won his maiden Masters 1000 Title with a straight sets victory over Nick Kyrgios in the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati.
