President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is slated to address Nigerians this evening by 1900hrs, July 31st, 2023 in a nationwide broadcast. The presidential spokesperson, Dele Alake made this known this morning advising all media houses to take note. The statement reads, “Television, radio stations and other electronic media outlets are enjoined to hook up to the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority and Radio Nigeria for the broadcast.”
Although what Tinubu will tell Nigerians is still not clear at the time of filing this report, however, it may not be unconnected with the hardship that has afflicted Nigerians as a result of the fuel subsidy removal that has left many families unable to secure for basic feeding.
The president has called for calmness, saying his government is planning to secure some ad-hock measures that will make life easier for all.
He attributed the scenario to a labour room pain that better days are ahead.
Tinubu address is coming on the eve of the nationwide protest organised by labour and amid the strike by the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) who rejected the 25% increment in basic salary recently announced by the federal government.
It was learned through a communiqué issued on Saturday by the National Executive Council (NEC) of NARD after meeting in Lagos, the association said , it ” vehemently rejects the paltry 25% increment in the basic salary of doctors as well as the accoutrement allowance”.
The association insisted that its earlier demand for full restoration of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure is what they stand for and its right value as at the time of the approval of the structure in 2009.
The communiqué was signed by the president of the association, Dr Orji Emeka Innocent, Secretary-general Dr Chikezie Kelechi, and publicity and social secretary Dr Umar Musa.
The resident Doctors said they will continue the ongoing nationwide total and indefinite strike action until reasonable progress is made by the government to address her demands as contained in the ultimatum issued to the federal government earlier this month.
NARD demands the immediate release of the circular on the One-for-One policy for the replacement of exited clinical workers for implementation, saying enough of her members losing their lives and breaking down under the pressure of work overload especially this time that the “japa syndrome” has seriously affected its workforce.
