The traditional ruler of Obudi Agwa community in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State, Eze Ignitus Asor, has been killed by gunmen, on Monday. Five other persons were reportedly killed when some armed youths stormed the palace of the traditional ruler where a dispute between locals was being arbitrated and opened fire on him. The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mike Abattam, while confirming the incident to newsmen in Owerri, said the hoodlums drove to the palace of the monarch and pretended to be persons in distress that needed help. It was when the monarch welcomed them into his palace that they, in the process, pulled out their guns and shot at the traditional ruler and two others.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it has uncovered plans by some drug cartels to introduce fentanyl into the Nigerian market. Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid anesthesia that is similar to morphine but is 50 to 100 times more potent. The NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, who announced this on Tuesday, described the illicit drug as 100 times stronger than tramadol.
According to him, the drug, with misleading labels, can come in form of candles and eye drops.

The United States Central District Court in California has sentenced Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi to 11 years in prison for fraud and money laundering. However, he will spend 9 years in jail because he has already spent 2 years in custody since his arrest in June 2020.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested the village head of Gidan Abba in Bodinga local government area of Sokoto State, Abubakar Ibrahim, for alleged possession of pharmaceutical opioids, cannabis and khat among other illicit drugs. A statement by the spokesman of the NDLEA, Femi Babafemi announced that Ibrahim was among 11 suspects arrested in interdiction operations by men of the anti-narcotics agency where 991,320 pills of pharmaceutical opioids and 1,251 kilogrammes of cannabis and Khat as well as 46,637 kilogrammes of methamphetamine, cocaine and heroin were recovered across seven states. Babafemi said at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, NDLEA operatives attached to the SAHCO import shed last Wednesday intercepted a total of 15 cartons containing 802,000 pills of tramadol imported from Dubai, UAE and Karachi, Pakistan.

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered a final seizure of two properties and cars owned by former oil Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke in the latest ruling related to graft allegations against her. This is according to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) which made the request. The EFCC’s application, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1122/2021 and FHC/ABJ/CS/1123/2021, requested the final forfeiture of the assets. Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Monday, October 24, 2022, gave the order.

A Federal High Court sitting on Thursday in Dutse, Jigawa State discharged and acquitted, a former governor of the state, Ibrahim Saminu Turaki of N8.3 billion corruption charges in a suit filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The presiding judge, Justice Hassan Dikko, struck out all the charges and discharged all the defendants due to want of diligent prosecution.
