Reports reveal that the South-south Governors may have resolved to intercede in the case of the former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen.

According to The Nation, the governors intend to meet President Muhammadu Buhari with a view to persuading him to accept Onnoghen’s resignation letter. It further stated that the majority of the South-South governors have bought the idea of intervening in the Onnoghen matter as such they have requested an audience with President Buhari.

The governors are willing to get a dignified exit for Onnoghen, who is from the geopolitical zone. They were to plead for a ‘political solution’ on behalf of Onnoghen. They also do not want the CCT matter to drag on for more months or he should be subjected to a separate trial by the EFCC on other allegations against him.”

However, the proposed meeting was expected to be held last Thursday but the conviction of Onnoghen same day by the CCT caused a delay as one of the issues was overtaken by the judgment.
