Archbishop Gabriel Leke Abegunrin of the Catholic Archdiocese of Ibadan has called on the Federal Government to subsidize food items in the open market instead of giving palliatives to a few individuals for cheap political point. The Federal Government has yesterday disclosed it has uncovered the identity of 15 entities, including nine individuals and six Bureau De Change operators and firms, allegedly involved in terrorism financing in the country. This was revealed by the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit, NFIU in a mail sent to Punch yesterday night, titled “Designation of Individuals and Entities for March 18, 2024.” The letter detailed that the Nigeria Sanctions Committee met on March 18, 2024, where specific individuals and entities were recommended for sanctioning depending on their level of involvement in terrorist financing.
The Nigerian Correctional Service revealed that a total of 25,679 convicts have been sentenced to Non-Custodial Services in the Federal Capital Territory within five years.
The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, on Tuesday, said the killers of about 16 military personnel in Delta State may be mercenaries and not Nigerians. Some armed men had on Thursday, March 14, attacked and killed 16 personnel of the Nigerian Army during a peace mission to Okuama Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta. Addressing a debate on two merged motions by Senator Abdulaziz Yar'Adua, APC, Katsina Central, and Edeh Dafinone, APC, Delta Central, Akpabio opined that those who killed the soldiers may be mercenaries.
