President Bola Tinubu attended the African Counter-Terrorism Summit in Abuja, a two day event scheduled for Monday to Tuesday, April 23, 2024, organized by Nigeria in partnership with the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) with the theme: ‘Strengthening Regional Cooperation and Institution Building to Address the Evolving Threat Terrorism.’ According to a statement issued on Sunday by Ajuri Ngelale,the Presidential Spokesperson, which stated that the summit will provide a platform to review the “nature and severity of the threat of terrorism on the continent.”

A former Kaduna state Senator, Shehu Sani has called on the federal Government to pull down a Chinese supermarket located in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, for allegedly barring Nigerians from accessing the facility for shopping. Over the week, there were alleging that the management of a Chinese supermarket along Airport road, Abuja situated at the China General Chamber of Commerce, directed security officers guarding the facility to deny any Nigerian an access to the facility.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has announced that the U.S. government has launched its new Country Plan for Nigeria as part of the Global Food Security Strategy. The announcement was made by Melissa Jones, the mission director of USAID, during the "1st Post-harvest Connect Conference and Exhibition" held in Abuja. According to Ms. Jones, the plan was unveiled in March and aligns with President Joe Biden's pledge to enhance food security in Nigeria.

Two communities in Mangu and Bokkos Local Government Areas of Plateau State have come under attack by gunmen leading to the deaths of scores of people. The Transition Committee Chairman of Bokkos, Monday Kassah confirmed the incident saying, “There were series of attacks last (Thursday) night and these claimed six lives. The attackers are still very visible, they come two or three on motorcycles and are rampaging in Mandung, Butura, Chikam, and other communities around the State University, all communities are in the Butura District of Bokkos. Security agents are here and more deployments have been made. A student of the University was shot last night in his room outside the campus and another one was killed this morning.” The attack also left several persons injured with properties destroyed and homes set ablaze.

Troops of the Nigerian Army have destroyed camps belonging to terrorists in Zamfara state. During the clearance operation on Monday twelve terrorists were neutralized while 10 operational motorbikes and 18 rustled cattle were recovered. This is according to Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director, Army Public Relations. Speaking in a statement on Tuesday, the general explained that the army acting on credible intelligence on the activities of the terrorists, conducted a targeted clearance operation to dismantle the suspected terrorists' operational base in the town of Maru.

Represented by the Vice President Kashim Shettima, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared April 7 as national police day during the maiden edition of the Nigeria Police Awards and Commendations ceremony held in the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja. He acknowledged the need to overhaul the institutional mentality of police officers as fundamental in his administration’s ongoing effort to transform the police into a modern, professional and accountable institution in the country.
