Members of the organised labour comprising the NLC and TUC, has today Friday declared their intention to embark on an indefinite strike over minimum wage negotiation that ended up in a dead lock effective 3rd June, 2024. President of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, Joe Ajaero, made this known this evening at an ongoing press conference at Labour House in Abuja, saying the strike has become necessary as Federal government is taking the organised labour for a joke.
According to the labour, their conclusion was in response of the federal government failure to increase the minimum wage beyond the N60,000 after the tripartite committee resume negotiations today.
The TUC President while speaking during the declaration said, “As you are aware, we had the last meeting proceeding today, which was on Tuesday. In that meeting, they (the government) offered N60,000. They invited us for a meeting today (Friday), and we deliberated on it, thinking they were showing the necessary commitment.
“To our surprise, there was no serious representation from either the Federal Government or the state governors who are supposed to be part of the negotiations.
“So, technically, we felt they have abandoned us because they remained adamant about the N60,000 offer. Not even a kobo was added to what we rightfully rejected.”
