The Chairman of Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Hon Safiyanu Isa Andaha, and his political godfather Adamu Umar Custom who were kidnapped on New Year's Day have regained their freedom. It was gathered reliably that the sum of N10m was paid to the kidnappers after the initial demand of N50m which was negotiated before they were released.
Spokesperson of the Nasarawa State Police Command, DSP Ramhan Nansel, who confirmed the release to Channels TV on Wednesday said Andaha and the three others were released about 8:45 PM on Tuesday in Andaha village, Akwanga local government area.
The released victims have been taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Keffi, for medical treatment.
According to Nansel, they were released due to sustained pressure mounted on them by Police operatives deployed on their trail.
The chairman and the others were abducted by gunmen on Monday night in Ningo village of Akwanga Local Government Area.
Gunmen have been operating and perpetrating kidnaps and attacks on innocent Nigerians in the North-Central and North-Western parts of the country despite the presence of security operatives.
