The Federal Government of Nigeria through the Ministry of Education has stated that a new curriculum would be introduced for secondary schools nationwide by September 2024. The Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, stated this during ‘2024 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board Policy’ conference in Abuja on Thursday. In his statement, he said, “We are working hard to ensure that a new curriculum is introduced for secondary schools by September”. Mamman also acknowledged that the exercise is being prioritized with a forthcoming stakeholders meeting scheduled for August 6, 2024.
“It is our plan that by September, this programme will be implemented in all public and private schools”.
The National Senior Secondary School Education Commission had earlier demanded a strategy to thwart the challenges confronting the secondary level education, including infrastructural deficit, unqualified teachers, obsolete curriculum, and deplorable libraries and laboratories.
The governments was also advised to diversify learning pathways for out-of-school youth, by developing flexible technology-enabled alternatives for learning, accredited certification, and re-entry to the formal education system.
