The Kaduna state Police command has declared a massive clampdown on all users of unapproved tinted glass vehicles cars on the roads.
The state commissioner of Police, Austin Iwar, who gave the hint on Wednesday when he paraded 38 armed robberies and kidnap suspects, said the move has become important following series of security breaches which included kidnapping and armed robbery in some parts of the state.
According to the Police Commissioner, the suspects who were part of the gangs that have been terrorising motorists along Kaduna-Abuja highway and Zaria were arrested after a fierce gun battle with operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Safer Highway Squad.
He disclosed that among those arrested was a serving military Sergeant who was arrested along with his gang in connection with a case of kidnapping, criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.
The police boss, who stated that the suspects would soon be arraigned in court reassured residents of the state that the command will not relent in ensuring that criminals are thrown out of business.
“The suspects who are in custody have made useful statements which are aiding police investigation.
“I want to reassure members of the public that the police in the command will not relent on its efforts in the fight against all form of crime and criminality under our pledge; we intend to curb the surge in crime, while at the same time respecting the fundamental rights of all individuals.
“In addition, I want to call on all good citizens of the state to braze up and be part of fighting crime in the state.
“We will not stand by and watch criminals degrade our quality of life and destroy our ability and commitment the contribute to the socioeconomic development of the state through community partnership to policing which will soon be launched in the state.
“Communities will be mobilized to participate effectively in how they will be policed.
“We will effectively work with already established community and state crime prevention and community safety outfit to achieve this”.
The command also vowed not to spare any vehicle with unauthorized tinted glasses.
” We are going to carry out a massive check on these vehicles, making sure that those that have factory tinted glasses will be classified separately and deal with them.
“And those that don’t have factory tinted glasses, but their cars are tinted, we are going to peel them off.
No law says you should tint your car”, he added.
Items recovered from the suspects included 41 Arms and ammunition, three stolen vehicles, as well as the rescue of four kidnapped victims.
