Zhongshan Fucheng Industrial Investment Co. Limited, the Chinese firm that sized Nigeruia's presidential jets and other national assets, has announced the release of one of Nigeria’s presidential jets, following a directive from a French court. The aircraft, an Airbus A330, was previously detained in France under a court order obtained by Zhongshan.
A spokesperson from the company confirmed the release, stating that the gesture was made in consideration of Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's upcoming meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron scheduled for next week.
“We have acted reasonably and fairly throughout our legal dispute with Nigeria, which was not initiated by us,” the spokesperson told Premium Times. “We were informed that the Airbus A330 is essential for President Tinubu’s travel to his meeting with President Macron. As a goodwill gesture, we have immediately lifted the seizure to facilitate this trip.”
The spokesperson also reiterated Zhongshan’s commitment to negotiating a resolution with the Nigerian government. The company, which has previously expressed willingness to negotiate, did not provide details on the release timeline for the remaining detained aircraft.
Zhongshan’s move highlights its intent to resolve the ongoing legal and diplomatic issues amicably while ensuring the Nigerian president can attend his important international engagement.
