Following the activities of banditry that have continued unabated in northwestern Nigeria, katsina state Governor, Dikko Radda has cried out to federal government that his state in under-policed. The governor made this known this morning when he granted interview to DW Hausa where he was quoted saying only 32 police men are patrolling one Local Government Area, LGA, in his state.
Although, he did not disclosed the specific LGA he was referring to, but said the LGA has 10 wards with about 200 villages.
Radda added that out of the 32 policemen, only nine of them are armed with gun out of which only 5 guns are operational.
In his statement the governor said, “Currently in Katsina, there is a local government area with 39 policemen and nine guns, and the serviceable guns are five.
“The LGA has 10 political wards, with more than 200 villages. How can a police force with 39 personnel protect them?
“We have come up with an initiative that for any community ready to defend itself, we will give them necessary support and training to engage criminals before the arrival of the security agents.”
In the last three years, Katsina state has been under severe attack by bandit’s terrorists.
Some days ago, Governor Radda has called on his people to adopt proactive measures of self defense in other to protect themselves against bandit attacks whenever it happens.
He stated this during a town hall meeting in Daura local government area of the state.
In a video that went viral, Radda was visibly furious and charged Islamic scholars to enlighten the citizens about the importance of self-defense as enshrined in Islam.
The governor had made a similar call in February when he said that the federal security were not under his control and has been flaunting his orders.
His commissioner for Internal Security, Dr Nasiru Muazu Danmusa, also made a similar appeal recently.
