A 24-year-old protester has been shot dead during a mass protest against a new taxation bill currently being pushed by authorities in Kenya. The deceased is one of the front-liner who took part in the ongoing protest in the capital, Nairobi, since yesterday, Thursday evening, as thousands of people took to the streets across the country.
The protest come on the heel of new law that is currently being debated by the parliamentary and vote on the controversial law is about to be unleash on the masses.
It was learned from the family lawyer that, the man was shot on the leg by the police and died due massive blood loss.
Although, he was given medical attention shortly after the incident from first aid, but could not make it and he gave up the ghost.
Meanwhile, some leaders of the protesters has mobilised the protesting youth to converge at the morgue to show solidarity with the parents of the diseased.
Accordingly, the human rights organisation, Amnesty International reported that not less than 200 people sustain various degrees of injuries during Thursday’s protests in Nairobi alone.
The new tax law, if allow to see the light of the day, many Kenyans fear that their cost of living will rise to an astronomical level which their income cannot sustain..
With a low or weak purchasing power, entrepreneurs and business owners will be threatened out of business by the policy.
