Popular social critic Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has expressed serious concerns for his safety following the public disclosure of his home address online. In a recent video, VDM revealed he learned about the leak through a cease and desist letter that circulated on social media.
The controversy began with a legal notice issued by Nigerian rapper, Folarin Falana, better known by his stage name Falz, who gave VDM a 24-hour ultimatum regarding claims that he assisted cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky in evading legal troubles. This ultimatum was a response to a viral audio released by VDM on September 24, 2024, in which Bobrisky allegedly mentioned bribing officials to resolve her legal issues. Consequently, Falz became a trending topic across social media.
In a legal document shared on Falz’s Instagram on September 25, 2024, VDM’s statements regarding Falz and his father, prominent lawyer Femi Falana, were highlighted. The document demanded a retraction and apology for what it described as a “vicious” attempt to tarnish Falz’s reputation.
While VDM clarified that the cease and desist letter was not sent directly to him but addressed to him or his legal representatives, he voiced alarm over the public exposure of his address. He stated, “I can no longer go home; my address has been compromised. I’m now living in a hotel and scared to return home to pick up my belongings.”
This incident follows another controversy in which VDM released an audio recording alleging that Bobrisky had paid N15 million to EFCC officials to drop money laundering charges against her. This claim sparked widespread reactions on social media and intensified public scrutiny of VDM.
VDM also announced that he will not honor an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) related to the corruption allegations against its officials. He expressed concerns about traveling to Lagos for the meeting, suggesting instead that the EFCC invite him to their Abuja office.
He criticized the EFCC for not ensuring Bobrisky faced appropriate legal consequences, stating, “Before you invite someone like me, do a deep investigation on your officers first. If there’s a need for me to come, it should be to Abuja, not Lagos.”
As the situation unfolds, VDM remains vigilant about his safety and the implications of the ongoing legal disputes. Bobrisky has denied the allegations concerning the purported payment to EFCC officials, calling the audio recording fake.
