Drones Attack Ukraine’s Kyiv Region, Destroy Infrastructure

Critical infrastructure facilities were hit by drone strikes early on Thursday. Three "kamikaze" drones carried out the targeted attacks on the district of Bucha, the head of Kyiv region police Andrii Nebytov said. "Tonight, the enemy carried out a series of attacks on the infrastructure of Kyiv region. As a result of the explosions a fire broke out," he said in a Telegram post on Thursday. There are no casualties, according to a preliminary assessment. Drones also struck targets in the Makariv community in the Kyiv region overnight, he said. The police chief however did not elaborate on what kind of infrastructure facilities were targeted in Bucha. Oleksii Kuleba, head of Kyiv region military administration, also posted about the drones on Telegram.

Biden Promises Air Defence Support For Ukraine

President Joe Biden spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday after a cascade of Russian missiles targeted energy and military infrastructure across cities in Ukraine. While condemning the strikes Biden pledged continued US security assistance “including advanced air defense systems.” During the call, a White House statement said, Biden “expressed his condemnation of Russia’s missile strikes across Ukraine, including in Kyiv, and conveyed his condolences to the loved ones of those killed and injured in these senseless attacks. President Biden pledged to continue providing Ukraine with the support needed to defend itself, including advanced air defense systems.” U.S. President Joe Biden and other Group of Seven leaders will convene virtually later on Tuesday to discuss what more they can do to support Ukraine and to listen to Zelenskiy, who has called air defence systems his "number 1 priority". Biden has already promised more air defences.

Heavy Flood Kills 9, Others Missing In Italy

Floodwaters triggered by heavy rainfall have swept through several towns in a hilly region of central-east Italy, leaving about 9 people dead and several missing, according to state radio. The 40cm of rain fell within just two to three hours after torrential rain in late hours of Thursday night. The water has submerged the streets of several towns in the region's capital, Ancona, on the Adriatic coast, and Pesaro-Urbino provinces. Among those missing is a mother and daughter plus four people. Dozens of others are reported to have saved themselves by climbing on to rooftops and trees to await rescue on Friday, in scenes described as being akin to an “apocalypse”. Fifty people are being treated in hospital.

Charles III Formally Proclaimed Monarch Of Britain

Charles III has been proclaimed King in a formal ceremony at St James’s Palace in London. He was pronounced King by the Accession Council at St James's Palace on Saturday. The King swore an oath, paid homage to the Queen, and promised to emulate her. "I shall strive to follow the inspiring example I have been set in upholding constitutional government and to seek the peace, harmony, and prosperity of the peoples of these islands, and of the Commonwealth realms and territories throughout the world," the King said.

The United States has warned the Russian Federation that it would respond in appropriate proportion when it unleashes its nuclear arsenal on Ukraine. The US National Security Adviser, Jake Sullivan made this statement yesterday while speaking to NBC. The NSA boss disclosed that the Government of the United States has informed Moscow of what he described as “catastrophic consequences” that it may likely face in the event of unleashing nuclear head. Vladimir Putin had on Wednesday made a nuclear threat following the unabated war between Russia and Ukraine that started in February this year.

Queen Elizabeth II: King Charles leads procession

The coffin of Queen Elizabeth II began moving in a procession through central London on Wednesday from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall, where the late monarch will lie in state for four days until her funeral on Monday. The Queen’s coffin is being transported on the George Gun Carriage, which carried King George VI’s coffin from Sandringham Church to Wolferton Station in February 1952. The gun carriage was also used during the funeral of the Queen Mother in 2002. William and Harry have joined their father King Charles III for the Queen's coffin procession as it makes its way to Westminster Hall. The most senior members of the royal family are taking part in the procession, a roughly 40-minute walk, in silence, from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall, including the new monarch King Charles III and his sons, Prince William and Harry, the Duke of Sussex.

Queen Elizabeth II Has Died, Aged 96

British longest-serving monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, born Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor, in Mayfair, London, has died at Balmoral aged 96, after reigning for 70 years. According to a statement released from Buckingham Palace, "The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and the Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow." - it reads.
