Appeal Court Releases CTC of Kano Judgment

The Court of Appeal has finally released the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the Kano state governorship election judgment it delivered on 17th November 2023, in favor of the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate, Nasiru Gawuna. The CTC was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Salihu Tanko Yakasai, popularly known as Dawisu, the Kano state Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 election. Dawisu is currently a chieftain of the APC and an ally of Abdullahi Ganduje, the APC national chairman.

Reps Summon MDAs Over Mismanagement Of N447.6bn COVID-19 Intervention Funds

The House of Representatives has summoned 83 Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDA) of the Federal Government as it begins an investigation into the alleged mismanagement of over N447.6bn COVID-19 intervention fund from 2020 to 2022. At least 22 of the MDAs got not less than N447.6bn as COVID-19 funds in 2020 alone. The House invited the Ministries of Agriculture and Food Security, Communications and Digital Economy, Federal Road Maintenance Agency, and scores of other Ministries, Department and Agencies.

Kano Politics: Police Caution Against Planned Protest

The Police Command in Kano State on Monday alerted the public of planned protest by some groups of political party supporters over the verdict of the Appeal Court in Abuja which sacked Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. There is apprehension that the protest could culminate into violence in the state. According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Yaruna Abdullahi Kiyawa, the command had taken appropriate security measures to prevent escalation of tensions that may lead to breakdown of law and order.

Appellate Court Dismisses Suit Against Mbah’s Victory

The Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos has upheld the victory of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate Peter Mbah as the Governor of Enugu State in the March 18 election. The Appellate Court, in a unanimous decision, dismissed the appeal filed by the Labour Party governorship candidate, Chijioke Edeoga, as lacking in merit and further upheld the judgment of the Enugu Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal delivered in September.

Atiku Speaks on Court Rulings in Favor of APC Candidates

One-time Vice President and the People's Democratic Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Atiku Abubakar, has spoken on the recent court rulings in favor of the All Progressive Party (APC) in states governed by opposition parties. In a statement released on Monday by Atiku's spokesman Paul Ibe, has accused the ruling party of using underhanded tactics to "snatch, grab and run away with power." Atiku made instances of controversial rulings in Nassarawa, Kano, Zamfara, and Plateau States, where opposition victories have been reversed in favor of the APC “The ideal notion of democracy does not just reside in a representative government but is essentially rooted in the plurality of ideas. Thus, for a system to be seen as truly democratic, it must necessarily accommodate opposition and opposing views.

Kano 2023: Abba Yusuf Rejects Court Ruling

Abba Kabir Yusuf, Kano State Governor has rejected the Court of Appeal ruling, which sacked him from power, and has declared his intentions to take the case to the Supreme Court.  The Appeal Court on Friday 17th November 2023, upheld the decision of the state election petition tribunal which in a unanimous judgment declared Nasiru Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner Kano State governorship election.

President Tinubu Appoints Abba Isa Aide On Disability Matters

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Mohammed Abba Isa as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Disability Matters. According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, Isa’s appointment was borne out of President Tinubu’s determination to ensure all segments of society find placement within his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. Isa is a distinguished champion of persons with disabilities with over a decade of experience in local and international advocacy on matters concerning persons with disabilities.
