The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced on Tuesday that a total of 55,859 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) were collected during a recent five-day exercise in Ondo State, in preparation for the upcoming governorship election scheduled for November 16, 2024.
In a statement released by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, it was highlighted that this impressive collection occurred between October 17 and 21, 2024. PVCs were made available across all 203 wards in the state, leading to a significant turnout of voters.
Olumekun noted that the collected PVCs represented 62.2% of the 89,777 cards prepared for distribution, marking the highest percentage collected within such a short timeframe since the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) process was introduced in 2015.
For continued accessibility, INEC has extended the PVC collection period to its 18 Local Government Area (LGA) offices in Ondo State. Collection will resume from Wednesday, October 23, until Tuesday, October 29, 2024, daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, including weekends.
Voters are encouraged to collect their PVCs in person, as proxy collection is not permitted. Detailed information regarding LGA office locations and a breakdown of collection rates by area are available on the INEC website and its social media platforms.
