The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced on Thursday that Augustine Eguavoen will continue as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles. This decision follows the approval of the Technical and Development Sub-Committee's recommendation during a meeting of the NFF Executive Committee.
Eguavoen, 58, who has previously led the Super Eagles three times, will guide the team in its upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Libya next month. His interim tenure has seen the team achieve a 3-0 victory over Benin Republic and a scoreless draw with Rwanda earlier this month.
In addition to his role with the Super Eagles, Eguavoen will also oversee the Super Eagles B team during their qualifying campaign for the African Nations Championship (CHAN). He will be supported by a technical crew that includes Fidelis Ilechukwu, Daniel Ogunmodede, Olatunji Baruwa, and Tomaz Zorec.
The NFF's restructuring comes after the unexpected departure of former Super Falcons head coach Randy Waldrum. In light of this change, the Executive Committee has appointed Coach Justin Madugu to lead the Senior Women’s National Team, the Super Falcons, until a permanent head coach is appointed. The Super Falcons are set to compete in the Women's Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco in the summer of 2025.
NFF Director of Communications, Ademola Olajire, confirmed these appointments, emphasizing the federation's commitment to ensuring strong leadership for both the men's and women's national teams. Eguavoen’s appointment reflects the NFF's confidence in his capabilities, especially following a successful start to his interim role.
