Roger Federer topped Marin Cilic in straight sets, 6 - 3, 6 - 1, 6 - 4, to win a record 8th Wimbledon championship. The victory, his first at Wimbledon since 2012, made Federer the oldest man to win at the All England Club in the Open era.
Federer, the 35-year-old Swiss maestro, won his second grand slam of the year and 19th singles title overall.


The first set went to Federer, he was able to snatch the decisive break in the fifth game, eventually going on to take the set 6-3.


Cilic progress was hampered as he called for a medical timeout even as doctors ran out to tend to his foot, but he was able to continue into the second set.


However, clearly affected, and was blown away 6-1 in less than half an hour by the great champion and again required the trainer to further re-examine his foot. But Federer clinched the final set 6 - 4 to win the championship.


Federer cruised into the final without dropping a set. The last man to win Wimbledon without dropping a set was Bjorn Borg in 1976.
