A group of students identified as the Coalition of Concerned Northern Youth and Students has announced their withdrawal from a planned nationwide protest against hunger and economic hardship in Nigeria.
The decision was conveyed during a press briefing in Kano Yesterday by the group leadership, Comrade Jibrin Sani Bello, Senate President of the National Association of Kano State Students (NAKS).
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) command of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) disclosed it has banned all forms of procession by Shi’ite also known as Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN). This was disclosed in a statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the FCT, SP Josephine Adeh.
Ahead of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s planned Thursday meeting with leaders of organized labor, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has threatened a one-month shutdown if the minimum wage is expunged from the Exclusive to Concurrent list in the Constitution by Nigerian lawmakers as demanded by the Nigerian governors.
The Federal Government (FG) has stated that the recruitment exercise for the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and the Federal Fire Service (FFS) would be completed before the end of September 2024. This was made known in a statement issued by the Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board, Ja’afaru Ahmed, adding that the next stage of the exercise would begin in August.
The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has suspended the Central Motor Registry Registration Process (e-CMR) Enforcement scheduled to take effect from 29th of July, 2024. The Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the suspension is to allow for massive enlightenment to enlighten the public of the benefits and effectiveness of the e-CMR initiative. “The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun has ordered an immediate suspension of the proposed enforcement of the e-CMR initially scheduled to commence on the 29th of July, 2024".
Following the continued outcry by the Nigerian populace over food insecurity and uncontrolled inflation, the Federal Government has inaugurated the Presidential Food Systems Coordination Unit (PFSCU) as part of its efforts to examine and tackle the menace of hardship head-on.
