Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, has announced he is taking an indefinite leave of absence from his official duties due to pressing family medical concerns.
In a statement issued on September 7, 2024, Ngelale cited worsening health issues within his immediate family as the primary reason for his decision. The announcement includes his resignation from his additional roles as Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action and Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen.
Ngelale informed the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, of his leave in a formal memo submitted on Friday. He explained that the decision followed extensive discussions with his family, acknowledging the challenging nature of the medical situation at home.
“This difficult decision to step away from my roles as Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, Official Spokesperson, Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action, and Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen was made after careful consideration,” Ngelale said. “I must address critical health issues affecting my family, and while I understand the continuous demands of national service, my priority must be my family’s well-being.”
Ngelale expressed hope to return to his full duties once circumstances allow. He requested privacy for his family during this period.
Ngelale, who previously served as Senior Special Adviser on Public Affairs under former President Muhammadu Buhari and as a spokesperson for President Tinubu’s 2023 campaign, has been instrumental in shaping the administration’s media strategy and climate action policies. His departure will be felt across his various roles, especially as he has been pivotal in advancing the federal government’s climate and green economic initiatives.
The Presidential Committee on Climate Action and Green Economic Solutions, which Ngelale has led since May 2024, is tasked with overseeing all climate-related policies and programs. The committee, chaired by President Tinubu, includes notable figures from multiple sectors.
